This is...

... what gives me goosebumps.

Polystyrene foam.

Weird, I know. But I just cant stand the stuff!! The sound that it makes when rubbed drives me absolutely insane! It makes my skin crawl and get goosebumpy, and makes my hair stand right on its end.

And the worst thing is that nearly everything is packaged in it.

Eeeek- just the thought of it sends a shiver down my spine. *shudder*

Thanks to Flightless Boyds for this weeks 'this is' theme.

I agree...there is something creepy about polystyrene! Your post made me chuckle :)

That's funny....I worked for a polystyrene manufacturer for over 11 years!

mmm... it is a bit strange :) But so is mine this week. Is the noise as bad as dragging finger nails on a backboard?

Heh... I don't mind it at all... but my brother *hates* polystyrene with a passion! If we ever wanted to annoy him we only had to squeeze a piece of it and he'd be running away with his hands over his ears yelling!!

How funny! Now that I think about it - it is a rather annoying sound isn't it!

This is a coincidence..i was a t a girlfriends house and she had been framing photographs and had allowed her 20 month old to play with the polystyrene...for some reason that really bothered me! and it was strewn all over the carpet and I had to pick it up (my foible not on friend's request!) So I understand your dilemma.

I have a similar problem with the squeeky shoes on a basketball court... I can't watch the games on t.v. because it's all I hear!

Yeah, now that I think about it the texture is a little unsettling.

Ha! I have the same reaction to ice, particularly the sound of it being scraped. My sister once buried all of my birthday presents in the freezer because she knew I'd have difficulty getting them out....

Thanks for joining in with my theme this week :-)

OMG! You are the very first person I've ever heard of besides myself with this problem! I can't even touch the stuff - expecially the large pieces that come with ANY sort of entertainment or computer equipment. Just thinking of accidentally touching it or the sounds makes me feel ill...
