Vintage Paterns

A few years back, I was given these two tattered boxes full of sewing patterns from mum. At the time I wasn't a sewer, so the boxes got tucked at the back of the spare room cupboard.
Now that I'm sewing again, I decided to pull out my inherited boxes and see what they actually contained....

I've been sitting on a pot of gold!!- or 'sew' to speak.
These patterns are absolute gems! Flares, kaftan's, mini's, pinafores, you name it, I have it! Some even date back to when my nana was young. Though most are mums from when she was in her early 20's.
Check out some of these outfits.......

I'm in need of a serious wardrobe overhaul and since some of these outfits are 'back in fashion' again, I might give this one a go.

I'll keep you posted.

Homeward Bound

I've had the chance to head to the 'folks' place with 'little B' for a couple days, without hubby (which is an absolute rarity), so mum and dad can spend some quality time with their one and only grandchild that they don't see so often. And boy... has she had some serious cuddles! I feel a bit neglected on this occasion....'sigh'
I haven't really accomplished as much sewing as i had hope to- just finished off a pinnie (picture to come later)for 'little B' that I started two months ago ( I discovered my hand-me down machine doesn't have the button hole foot that I require). Here's hoping she'll still fit into it! And I finished a shoulder bag. I guess it's better than nothing.

We potted around in the vege garden for a bit- if you can call it that. It's a giant mass of pumpkin runners all over the place, but there were plenty of giant organic pumpkins to be found. Great for 'little B's' dinners!

First Attempt

After putting 'B' down for her morning sleep, I start the day with my cuppa tea and check my emails, then head off on a morning adventure on the net looking for inspiring and interesting crafty pages/ blogs. Some pages are absolutely amazing for sewing and crafty ideas. On one of my recent web surfing adventures, I came across this tutorial for a shoulder bag.
Mind you, I hadn't whipped anything up on a sewing machine since my first year in high school. Uh-um not saying when that was. And since this bag looked fairly simple, I gave it a go, and came up with this. I just used some fairly bright material I had floating about the place.

The bag has now become a great material scraps bag. So much fits into it. And thinking that version 1 didn't turn out so bad, I promptly set out to get some material, and then came out with this bag.

I'm pretty chuffed with myself. Sewing...just like riding a bike.

Old Faithful.

This ancient looking beast is my old faithful sewing machine.

I always get asked why I don't go and get myself a new 'fang-dangled' one that 'does this' and 'does that', but why would I when this one works perfectly fine. It was my Grandmas machine, and I remember using it when I went over to stay with her when I was a kid on school holidays. So I have a bit of an attachment to it really.
Grandma went and bought herself the 'fang-dangled', rolls royce, u- bute top of the line machine, so this poor guy got put aside. However after dusting the cobwebs off it and giving it a small service, it runs as good as new and is now mine.

Finally Caught Up!

Ok- so I am a bit behind with the times. Some blogs have been 'round for years, but I have finally caught on to the band-wagon, and here is mine. Be prepared for some moderate re-hashing while I'm trying to get everything set-up and sorted.
